The Story Behind The Menagerie

Hi, I’m Mariann, the founder and creative mind behind The Noble Menagerie.

Long before The Noble Menagerie existed, I worked with interiors and home decoration. I had my own shop, surrounded by fabrics, curtains, wallpapers and all the little details that can completely transform a home. I have always been fascinated by the way beauty, craftsmanship and personal style can tell a story.

Then life took me in a completely different direction.

I moved to France — something I had dreamed about for many years — and began a new chapter of my life. Living here only deepened my fascination with the past. History seems to be everywhere: in tiny villages, old stone houses, centuries-old streets and the remarkable number of châteaux that have survived through the generations.

I still love exploring them whenever I can.

And inevitably, I find myself wondering about the people who once lived there. What did they wear? How did they decorate their homes? What would an ordinary household have looked like compared with a wealthy one? Which fabrics, colours and patterns surrounded them?

That curiosity gradually grew into a particular love for fashion history and historic interiors.

The Noble Menagerie was born from a desire to bring all of these interests together — history, fashion, design, animals, nature and storytelling — but never too seriously.

Because there is one more ingredient that matters enormously to me: humour.

That is why you may find a distinguished llama dressed for another century, an impeccably fashionable dog, or even a fruit or vegetable taking its place in fashion history. I love combining the elegance of the past with a little irony and the unexpected.

But while the designs are meant to make you smile, I take the product itself seriously.

Having spent much of my working life in retail, customer satisfaction has always mattered deeply to me. I wanted The Noble Menagerie designs to be printed on garments that feel substantial, comfortable and made to be worn again and again. That is why I chose premium-quality tees rather than simply looking for the cheapest blank available.

I want to create pieces that last — designs worth discovering, wearing, talking about and keeping.

The Noble Menagerie is where my old passions found a new home.
